What is NAMP?

The Nebraska Association of Meat Processors (NAMP) got its start in 1939 when a group of locker plant owners came together to form an association.

In the early years, the animals were slaughtered on the farm and then taken to the plant to be processed and stored. Back then, there weren't many freezers at home so the plants would store the meat in their coolers.

Through the years, NAMP has had many great leaders to see us through such issues as State Meat Inspection and the switch to Federal Inspection.

Plants have also changed drastically since the beginning. In the early days they were primarily used for storage, but today processors not only cut meat but process it further into specialty meats and 'ready to eat' products.

The Nebraska Association of Meat Processors holds an annual convention each year where members can attend educational seminars, trade shows, and take part in the Cured Meats Competition.

The Nebraska Association of Meat Processors is associated with the American Association of Meat Processors (AAMP), which is our national organization.
